Dr. Thelma Dunn thoroughly described and classified the "spontaneous" mammary tumors of mice. About 93% of all MuMTV-induced mammary tumors are either Type A(left) or Type B(right). Type A tumors have a microacinar pattern. Type B tumors have a solid cord-like pattern. Interestingly enough, wnt-1 tumors resemble the Type A tumors and int-2 tumors resemble the Type B tumors. Previous studies indicate that the virus activates these two oncogenes.
